PGA History

In 1984, a group of golfers recruited by Gordy Paro and Wally O’Malley ventured to Myrtle Beach for a golf trip. What began as a single trip became an annual pilgrimage that generations of golfers have looked forward to, with everyone who has made the trip becoming a member of the Poor Golfers Association. The 2026 trip will be the PGA’s 43rd year. Over the years, the trip has included as many as 24 golfers at one time, with 138 golfers participating in all. Together, they have played 4225 rounds on 66 different courses. More than four decades later, the tradition—and the pursuit of occasionally respectable golf—continues.
